Diploma Program: Preparing the students for university life

A diploma program is an educational program given as a university entrance course and is usually taken for two years by students between the ages of 16 to 19 years old.

Among the most widely recognized diploma program is that of the International Baccalaureate Organization or IB organization. There are also nationally accredited educational and preparatory programs given in some countries such as the Advanced Placement Examination System in the United States or the Advanced Highers or A- Level in United Kingdom.

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Program is primarily designed to teach the students how to learn properly, ask challenging questions, develop a strong sense of identity and at the same time develop the student's ability to communicate and understand other people of different culture or country.

Students are generally required to take six subjects from the subject group where in three subjects are studied at a higher level or is equivalent to 240 hours while the remaining three subjects are taken at a standard level which is equivalent to 150 hours.

The subject area of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program includes the Language A1, Second language, Individuals and Societies, Experimental Science, Mathematics, and Arts and Elective. Apart from these subjects, the students are also to take three core requirements which includes the Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge or TOK, and the Creative Action and Service or CAS.

Prior to being awarded a IB diploma, the student must first complete different requirements such as the completion of the three Higher level subject and three Standard Level subjects, A minimum score of 24 for each subject, the completion of the Extended Essay and TOK with a minimum grade of D, the completion of the required 150 hours of CAS or Creative Action Service, and the candidate must be given a clear record of the final award committee among many others.
