Like Trying To Reach The Horizon
Getting a diploma is the dearest goal for many college students. It’s a sign that they've finally fulfilled all the necessary graduation requirements. Likewise, the diploma represents the final stage in the transition from child to adult.
Yet, truth be told, not everybody has the smarts necessary to easily get that diploma. Despite all their efforts, the diploma remains an elusive dream. Much like trying to reach the horizon, some people keep at it to no avail.
Still, not being able to get that diploma can just be a case of not thinking creatively enough. Some think that studying hard and acing tests are the only ways to get a diplima. However, there are other non-academic ways to get a diploma. Check out the following list for some ideas.
10. Use Your Family Ties Wisely
A well-known edict goes: “Blood is thicker than water.” Having a relative who's powerful and influential can be useful for shaking the right people to give you that coveted diploma. Just go through your family tree, and try to find that rich uncle or senator aunt of yours.
Using the influence of your relatives is perfectly fine, as long as rough-housing isn't involved. Your family is in the best position to look out for your needs, but should they do so with blood on the line? Unless you're in the mafia, family influence should be used through non-violent ways.
9. Befriend the Smart Kids
It's a common misconception that you have to do all the college work given to you. Unless you're a genius or an ardent worker, staying with this train of thought might just keep you from getting a diploma.
It's better to perceive yourself as a task manager, where you delegate all the college work given to you to willing and talented individuals. However, this is not easy to do; some people scoff at the idea of fulfilling somebody else's responsibilities.
In this light, befriending the smart kids is a smart move. You can't bully people to do your work for you, however, unless you think you're still in high school. In college, after all, violent coercion is considered childish. Things have to be a bit more subtle.
8. Pay the Really Smart Kids
If being friends with the right people isn't enough, you can always dangle some prize money to get what you want. A per diem can get those smart kids to do your school work, and get you that diploma.
True, there's some dirt when playing on people's greed, but sometimes, you just have to do what you have to do. Be sure to keep tabs on your cash flow, though. Mindlessly paying people here and there can leave you broke at the end of the day. Likewise, poor financial planning can lead to the collapse of your work delegation program.
7. Get Really Good At That Sport of Yours
Many universities provide sports scholarships to athletes who have extraordinary talents in their respective fields. True, some universities dangle grade requirements alongside their sports scholarship, but it's not like there's no way to get around that.
You can reach a skill level so high that you gain significant influence on campus. The school's glory relies on your talent so much that you could reason yourself out of any difficult exam or tiresome project. Focus on improving your game, and you might have a diploma in no time.
6. Show Some Affection to Your Professors
Even though the student-teacher relationship is bound by certain conventions, the fact that two people are involved means some tenderness can ease things up. A thank-you gift to your professor might just melt his heart enough for him to decide to overlook all the times he caught you cheating. Some friendly words in passing can serve your purposes in the future.
Keeping a healthy rapport with your professors can give you the chance to haggle with them come deliberation time. You never know when the little note you left on your professor's desk will make wonders for your future.
5. Give Praise to Your Entire Professor's Thoughts
Some professors, however, are so focused on their work that they're probably numb to any form of human affection. For them, the only real affirmation comes in revering their academic work.
When note-leaving and gift-giving doesn't work, you can try showing some enthusiastic appreciation for each of your professor's thoughts. Imagine that the book you use as a reference was written by the very teacher of the course. In a subtle yet pointed manner, you could go ahead and praise the thoughts found in the book.
Do it enough and your professor may recommend you for early graduation.
4. Flirt With Your Professor
As said earlier, the student-teacher relationship is governed by many conventions, some of those bar any romance from blossoming, even if some professors find some of their students attractive, and vice versa. Yet, because conventions keep professors and students from acting on the connection, the sexual tension is increased exponentially.
Teasing the carnal desires of your professor could give you enough influence to ask for some leeway during the deliberations for your diploma. Beware, this means treading into dangerous territory. You’re dealing with very strong, yet sometimes volatile emotions. You never know what could actually happen when you flirt with your professor.
3. Get Really Close To The Administration
Sometimes, faculty members aren't influential enough to get you that diploma through non-academic means. Your efforts will have to be focused on sucking up to more powerful university figures, like individuals in the deliberations committee.
You can do the same things to gain influence over your professor, though be aware that you're dealing with an entirely different set of circumstances. The individuals in the deliberations committee may not have any knowledge of who you are, given that you may not have shared any classroom experience with them.
As a result, you have to view the situation with a slightly different perspective. Read it right, and you're pretty much assured of that diploma.
2. Plead With Your Life!!
If all else fails, you can just beg for the deliberations committee to grant you your diploma. Make a scene. Threaten to kill yourself if you don't graduate. Do anything to convey how much you want to get your diploma. After all, desperate times need desperate measures.
However, it would be a good idea to put some method into your madness. You should plan things out, decide on whom to plead to, and commit to memory what you will say.
1. Have It Forged
Say you gave your all fighting for that diploma and you still ended up with nothing. Keep in mind that it's just a piece of paper with loads of writing on it. However, without a diploma, you might have difficulty finding a job. You could always go back to the drawing board and plan out the next non-academic way of gaining a diploma.
Yet, if it's just about having that piece of paper, you could just go ahead and have your diploma forged. All the ties you've established could be put to good use in this manner. Find the right people, and you'll eventually have your very own diploma.
Thinking Out Of the Box
The list is all about getting creative in getting that diploma. Though there are tried and tested ways, sometimes these don't work. In case you find yourself in a rut, unable to grab that piece of paper, take some time out and think about what else you can do to attain your goals.
